Solar Electric Grid-Tie

Basic Idea: We mount Photovoltaic (PV) panels on your roof and connect them to your main electric service through a specialized device called an inverter. The inverter converts the DC voltage from the PV panels to an AC voltage that is compatible with your home. This allows you to utilize electricity for your house loads or to sell any excess back to the power company.

Benefits:
Simplest solar energy system to install
High return on investment
Most panels warrantied for at least 20 years
High reliability since no moving parts
Federal and State incentives cover up to 80% of the costs including installation
Protects the environment by reducing the amount of CO2 emmissions

At the end of each month your bill will be reduced based upon the amount of electricity you generated. This process is called Net Metering.

Note: During a power outage the inverter will prevent electricity generation even if the sun is shining. This is called "anti-islanding" and is important for the safety of utility workers. If you require electricity during a power outage you should investigate grid-tie with battery backup.
